Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is set to join Turkish club, Galatasaray, on loan until June 2025.
According to a statement on Monday by Italian football journalist, Fabrizio Romano, Napoli’s release clause has been reduced from €130m to €75m.
This comes after potential transfer deals to Saudi Pro League club Al Alhi and English Premiership side, Chelsea did not materialise.
“Victor Osimhen to Galatasaray, here we go! Deal done and all documents have been approved. Osimhen’s release clause will be €75m with Napoli option to extend until 2027. Loan move to Gala until June 2025, €9/10m salary covered. No buy option, no obligation,” Romano posted on his X handle on Monday evening.
Osimhen, who penned a new deal with Italian Seria A club Napoli until 2026, won the 2022/23 Italian Footballers’ Association Player of the Year award after scoring 23 goals to lead Napoli to their first league title in 33 years. He was also ranked eighth best player in the 2023 Ballon d’Or awards.
Former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan coach, Jose Mourinho, who currently coaches rivals Fenerbache, has been an admirer of the Nigerian forward.
The Portuguese coach has previously described the current African Footballer of the Year as a world class striker, comparing him to Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba.
“He is of the same level as Drogba, but Didier didn’t dive. If Victor changes, then okay, I’d buy him if I was at a club with a lot of money,” Mourinho said in 2023.
Galatasaray is the most successful Turkish club in European competitions, winning the UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup in 2000.
