USA Top Paris 2024 Olympics Medals Table, Kenya Leads Africa

With four gold, two silver and five bronze – 11 medals in total – at the just concluded Paris 2024 Olympics, Kenya is the number one African country on the medals table, finishing in 17th position overall, with the USA topping the final medals standing.

The USA finished in 1st position on the medals table with 40 gold, 44 silver and 42 bronze (126 in total), China came second with 40 gold, 27 silver and 24 bronze (91 in total), and Japan finished 3rd with 20 gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze (45 total).

Kenya won all 11 medals from athletics events, with Beatrice Chebet winning double gold in the Women’s 5,000m and 10,000m races. Her compatriot, Faith Kipyegon, was also a double Olympic medallist; winning gold in the Women’s 1,500m and silver in the Women’s 5,000m race.

Algeria, (39th overall), finished with 2 gold, and 1 silver (3); while South Africa (44th overall) finished with 1 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze (6).

Ethiopia (47th overall) finished with 1 gold and 3 silver. Egypt and Tunisia are joint 52nd overall with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze, make up the top 5 African countries on the final medal standing of the Paris Olympics.

Botswana, with 1 gold and 1 silver, finished at the 55th position on the medal table.

Despite a good showing to reach the finals of some Athletics events, Nigeria ended the Olympics without a single medal.

Australia, host France, Netherlands, Great Britain, Republic of Korea, Italy, and Germany complete the top 10 on the Paris 2024 Olympics medal table.

Over 70,000 witnessed the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games at the Stade de France.
