Spain won the gold medal in the Paris 2024 Olympic men’s football tournament after substitute Sergio Camello scored twice in extra time to secure a 5-3 win over hosts France in a dramatic final at Parc des Princes on Friday.
Thierry Henry’s side took an early lead, only to fall 3-1 behind before half-time and then mount a stunning second-half comeback.
At the end of normal time, both teams were locked at 3-3, only for Camello to decide the tie with two well taken goals.
The substitute scored 10 minutes into the extra time and scored another at the end to earn Spain their first Olympic title since 1992 in Barcelona.
The win continued Spain’s recent dominance of international football.
About a month ago, they won the men’s European Championship Euro 2024, beating England in the final.
They also won the men’s under-19 European title last month, while the women’s team lifted the World Cup last year.
In an all-African third place match on Thursday, Morocco’s trounced their North African neighbours Egypt 6-0 to claim the bronze medal.
Morocco’s Soufiane Rahimi wrote his name into Olympic football history, by claiming the top scorer award at the Paris 2024 with an impressive eight goals tally.
