African football professionals will come together to discuss the future of African football at the inaugural Afro Football Forum scheduled to take place at the NIO House, Kurfurstendamm, Berlin, Germany on August 15.
With the theme, Impact Beyond the Pitch, the Afro Football Forum is a meeting point for Africans working in football in Europe. It will bring together industry professionals working in football media, management, agency, marketing as well as parents of young footballers of African origin, a statement by the organisers noted.
“We want to highlight the impact of Africans and other Black people in the football industry, beyond the pitch, and to create opportunities that comes with networking among ourselves, to learn from each other and stimulate growth,” said football journalist and former Chief Editor, Goal.com Nigeria, Lolade Adewuyi, founder of the Afro Football Forum.
Some of the confirmed speakers include Dr. Ing. Fru Anwenwillie Ndenge of PBS, Cologne; Oma Akatugba of Oma Sports TV; Solange Tyrah Lee De Haas of FIFA, Zurich; Thierry Chipaushe of Forza Football, Gothenburg; Daniel Olasanmiju, founder of Motherland Berlin SC; Lassana Camara of AfricaFootUnited, Paris; Oluwabunmi Moses Egbebi of OE Sports, Salzburg; and Komborerai Wilfred Chikwape of the German Referees Association, Berlin; among others.
The event will be hosted by Kres Harrington, an award-winning African American journalist and TV host who works for the Deutsche Welle.
Topics at some of the panel sessions will include: “Why representation matters beyond the pitch; The power of storytelling – who is telling our stories”; “Lessons and opportunities from founding an African club in Germany,” and “Who is responsible for developing our talents?”
There will also be a special panel for parents of young and intending footballers titled, “The secret to raising Black footballers they never tell you.”
