The President’s Playlist: Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Tems Among Obama’s 2023 Music List
The continued global rise of Afrobeats was underscored on Friday when former US President Barack Obama named Unavailable by Davido featuring Musa Keys, Sittin’ on Top of the World by Burna Boy featuring 21 Savage, Amapiano by Asake featuring Olamide, Me & U by Tems as part of his Favourite Music of 2023 compilation.
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Obama listed the songs by Nigerian global superstars among the
“Here are some of my favorite songs from this year. Let me know if there are any artists or songs I should check out,” he wrote.
South African Tyla’s Water also featured on the 44th US President’s 2023 favourite music, which featured 28 songs by different artistes on the globe.
In 2022, Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last’, Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush’ and Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ were also named among Obama’s favourite music list.
