Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo stormed to an impressive men’s 100m win at the Golden Gala, Rome’s Diamond League athletics meet on Friday to claim a remarkable victory in 9.87 seconds.
The Botswana athlete was the star of the race among a strong field that included 2019 world champion Amereican Christian Coleman and Paris 2024 bronze medallist Fred Kerley.
Impressively, as Tebogo overtook Coleman who had the strongest start, he still had enough time to showboat, looking over his left shoulder, as he stormed to the finish line.
Coleman came second in 9.92 seconds with compatriot Kerley third in 9.95 seconds.
The 21-year-old’s 100m win comes barely a week after the Olympic champion came from behind to win 200m at Diamond League in Silesia on August 25, his second victory since his 200m victory at the Paris 2024 Games.
Tebogo won the 200m race in a meeting record of 19.83 seconds. Alexander Ogando of the Dominican Republic who finished in a time of 19.86s, while Olympic silver medallist Kenny Bednarek took third in 20.00s.
So far, 21-year-old Tebogo is living up to the tag as Africa’s and the world’s latest track star.
