The Super Eagles of Nigeria beat Angola’s Palancas Negras by a lone goal on Friday evening to advance into the semi-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire .
Ademola Lookman scored the only goal in the 41st minute of the match played at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny stadium in Abidjan.
A neat cut-back from Moses Simon was beautifully converted by Lookman in the 18-yard box to put the Eagles on the front foot.
Just before the break, Angola’s Zini hits the post.
Victor Osimhen had a header goal ruled offside by Senegalese referee, Issa Sy, assisted by VAR, in the 75th minute of the second half.
The African Player of the Year was later substituted in the final minutes by Paul Onuachu.
A late attacking flurry by the Palancas Negras was nullified by a solid Super Eagles defence line, with another impressive display by Calvin Bassey, William Troost-Ekong and Semi Ajayi.
This is the first time Nigeria have won four consecutive matches at a single AFCON tournament without conceding a goal.
In the semi final, Nigeria will now play the winner of the quarter final match between Cape Verde and South Africa.
