Super Falcons Thrash Comoros 5-0, Set Up Morocco Clash in LA 2028 Olympic Qualifiers

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have advanced to the next round of the women’s football qualifiers for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics after defeating Comoros 5-0 in Tuesday’s second leg in Ikenne, completing a 7-0 aggregate victory.

Interim coach Augustine Eguavoen’s side, who won the first leg 2-0, produced a dominant second-half performance to seal their progression and set up a meeting with Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses in the next round.

Toni Payne opened the scoring in the 41st minute after Uchenna Kanu capitalised on a goalkeeping error and squared the ball for her to finish from close range.

Nigeria intensified their attack after the break, with substitute Blessing Okpe making an immediate impact. In the 58th minute, Folashade Ijamilusi crossed for Kanu to head home the second goal.

Payne completed her brace in the 63rd minute after Okpe beat two defenders and cut the ball back into her path. Three minutes later, Kanu scored her second of the match, heading home another Ijamilusi delivery.

The Super Falcons’ fifth goal came in the 71st minute when Christy Ucheibe converted a penalty after Okpe was brought down inside the box.

Nigeria’s captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, was forced off in the 28th minute following a heavy collision, with Ijamilusi coming on as her replacement.

With a 7-0 aggregate victory across on both legs, the Super Falcons advance to the next round of the qualifying campaign, where they will face Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses.
