Artificial Intelligence: Group Advocates AI Integration to Improve Nigeria’s Health, Education Sectors

The urgent integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Nigeria’s education and healthcare systems will not only enhance learning, but it will also drive public service delivery and human capital development.

This was the key theme of the Madnel Initiative’s 2024 symposium on Artificial Intelligence, which brought together experts from various sectors to explore the transformative power of AI in public service delivery.

The symposium, which held on June 14, explored how AI can drive innovation and bridge critical service gaps, particularly in underserved communities.

In her keynote address, founder of the Initiative, Dr. Motunrayo Ogunrinbokun, noted the immense and far-reaching benefits of AI in improving learning outcomes, expanding access to healthcare, and enhancing public service delivery, in Nigeria and across the world.

“Artificial intelligence is not just about automation, but it’s about access, equity, and smarter decision-making,” “We must leverage AI tools to improve the way we teach and care for our people,” she stated.

Speaking further, Ogunrinbokun emphasized the vital role of instructors in national development, noting that while AI can supplement instruction, it cannot replace the human capacity to inspire, mentor, and lead.

“Instructors are nation-builders. While AI can enhance learning, the human element of compassion, mentorship, and vision of teachers is irreplaceable. As we embrace smarter systems, we must also invest in the people who make those systems meaningful,” she said.

Discussions at the symposium covered a variety of innovations, including AI-powered tutoring platforms, adaptive learning software, diagnostic apps, and virtual health assistants designed for remote communities.

Participants highlighted the great capacity of these technologies to ease the burden on overworked teachers and healthcare workers, while also enhancing learning outcomes and public health communication.
